PPD has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Group Leader/Lab Supervisor to join us onsite at one of our clients in Stevenage, Hertfordshire as part of our innovative Functional Service Provider (FSP) programme as an employee with PPD.

You will be dedicated to the client projects, working within their teams, systems and processes on behalf of PPD.

The role of Associate Group Leader is to work in their Analytical Development team in Cell and Gene Therapy Therapeutic area to lead a small team who will support the development of suitable analytical methods that can support both process development and manufacturing of cell and gene therapy products.

As an Associate Group Leader/ Lab Supervisor, you are an emerging scientific leader who is passionate about science,coaching and engaging analysts. You will responsible for helping to schedule and oversee laboratory operations on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

• Works with client manager to provide line-level management coordination of resources and work schedules for laboratory activities.

• Oversees daily operations and assists in preparation and implementation of company policies, quality systems and training programs.

• Ensures that projects are completed in a timely manner so that company revenues are met and clients are satisfied with the quality and turnaround time of work being performed.

• Compile and report monthly team metrics.

• Ensures that laboratory staff continue to be developed to keep pace with department goals and growth.

• Gains and maintains proficiency in analytical methods, conduct analysis as needed.

• Conducts scientific review and authorization of experimental documentation.

Education and Experience:

• BSc (or higher degree) in biology, cell biology, virology, biochemistry or related scientific discipline or HNC/HND will also be considered

• Experience in bioanalytical testing

• Strong organisational and excellent interpersonal communication skills

• Demonstrated excellence in technical writing skills

• Demonstrable ability to work in and across multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams

• At least 3-5 years of analytical testing experience

• At least 2-4 years experience in managing a high performing team in an industrial setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience in cell or tissue culture and flow cytometry

• Experience in regulated environment (GMP,GLP, ISO)

• Experience in qPCR, ddPCR, and immunoassays (e.g. ELISA)

• Experience in analytical testing in support of recombinant viral vector production, stem cell and T-cell therapies

• Experience in assays that measure infectious and physical viral titre, cell counting and viability, immunophenotyping of cells, and determination of process residuals (e.g. host cell proteins).

• People management experience

• Experience of vaccines, biopharmaceutical or cell and gene therapy product development
