Position Purpose

This individual will play a key role in the integration and continual enhancement of Insights Builder – the BI tool within the Real World Solutions Technology division.  This tool will provide analytics and visualisations within an exciting new platform that is transforming healthcare data and providing new ways to understand diseases and the impact of medicines.  The role will involve close collaboration with the Product Owner, working within a team environment driven by Scum principles. The chosen candidate will harness their experience and expertise with development in reporting and BI to define and action solutions to pressing business needs.

  • To play key role in integration of a new BI tool into an evolving data processing platform.
  • Describe the data using a SQL based modelling language in order that the organisation can explore it and create visualisations in a centralised, consistent way.
  • Manage the core model of the BI product, curating data, generating metrics, managing introduction of new datasets and pushing these to various business units. 
  • Facilitates a consistent understanding and view of the data across different local offices.
  • Deploys BI tool via API within the data platform and facilitates the injection of datasets for analysis.
  • Administration of the BI tool, debugging, monitoring, trouble shooting and creation of performance metrics. 

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Models data within the BI tool to facilitate clear and simple access to non-technical users across varying Business Units.
  • Reviews business requirements with regards to reporting, advises on the pros and cons of the possible technical solutions.
  • Translates those business needs into technical specifications and provides input to the requirements for the development of a solution.
  • Develops a full understanding of all relevant medical data and the data processing platform in which it resides.
  • Explores data the data to discover patterns, relationships, anomalies and trends. 
  • Creates reports, graphs and other visualisations to accurately and plainly represent stories within the data.
  • Writing relational and multi-dimensional database queries. 
  • Perform code reviews and optimisation of existing queries.
  • Comprehensively and coherently documents work in Confluence.
  • Tracks and defines work within JIRA.

Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience with SQL development and its variation among popular databases. 
  • 5+ years of experience with reporting, BI and data analysis. 
  • Exposure to big data tools and techniques.
  • Proficient in best practice when dealing with relational databases.
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject.
  • Experience in data warehouse design.
  • Familiarity with the practical application of NoSQL\NewSQL databases.
  • Habitually documents work thoroughly within tools such as Confluence.
  • Experience with healthcare/pharmaceutical data advantageous.
  • Experience working within Scrum.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Communicative English (both verbal and written) is a must.
