Breeds, raises and cares for small research animals on behalf of, or for sale to, customers. Follows proper breeding and animal care procedures. Monitors animal behavior and physical attributes to ensure animal health and confirm appropriate phenotype; reports any findings. Ensures biosecurity. Coordinates with Customer Service on scheduling and order status.We are seeking an Animal Technologistfor our CRADLsite located in South San Francisco.The following are responsibilities related to theAnimal Technologist:Experience performing animal husbandry using IVCs.Experience with rat and mouse colony maintenance, including setting up matings, plug checks, weaning and sexing of offspring, genetic sampling of ears/tails.Strictly maintaining and following complex breed procedures to ensure appropriate production levels and customer experimental plan. Comfortable handling rodents including restraining of animals for collection of fecal pellets, ear/tail sampling as well as tagging animals for identification.Must be comfortable performing mouse/rat health checks and interacting with veterinary staff as necessary.Collection and packing of animals for customer shipments or health monitoring with all necessary documentation.Understand and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures.Strictly follow all biosecurity procedures necessary to maintain isolator integrity and animal health status.Ensure proper record-keeping and report preparation; ensure data entry into Internet Colony Management.Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws governing the use of research animals.Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.Ability to maintain detailed records and observations.Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases and other applications. The following are minimum qualifications related to theAnimal Technologist position:Education:Associate degree or equivalent in Biological Science, Lab Animal Science or related discipline.Experience:1- 3 years related experience or training. Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the ALATG or above preferred.
