Follows proper breeding and animal care procedures. Monitors animal behavior and physical attributes to ensure animal health and confirm appropriate phenotype; reports any findings. Ensures biosecurity. Coordinates with Customer Service on scheduling and order status.

We are seeking a Sr Animal Technologist for our CRADL site located in South San Francisco.

The following are responsibilities related to the Sr Animal Technologist : 

Experience performing animal husbandry using IVCs, including monitoring animal’s food, water and bedding conditions. Introduction into IVCs basic husbandry supplies including food, cages, bedding, water and environmental enrichment. Experience with rat and mouse colony maintenance, including setting up matings, plug checks, weaning and sexing of offspring, genetic sampling of ears/tails. Strictly maintaining and following complex breed procedures to ensure appropriate production levels and customer experimental plan.  Comfortable handling rodents (mice and rats), including restraining of animals for collection of fecal pellets, ear/tail sampling as well as tagging animals for identification. Assist supervisors and Technologist with mentoring and training of new personnel. May act as team leader in specific departmental projects. Assist in providing leadership and motivation to departmental personnel.Collection and packing of animals for customer shipments or health monitoring with all necessary documentation. Understand and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures.

Strictly follow all biosecurity procedures necessary to maintain isolator integrity and animal health status.Ensure proper record-keeping and report preparation; ensure data entry into Internet Colony Management (ICM). Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws governing the use of research animals. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed. Ability to maintain detailed records and observations. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organization skill and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Sr Animal Technologist position: Education:  Associate degree (A.A. /A.S.) or equivalent in Biological Science, Lab Animal Science. Experience:  2 to 6 years related experience and/or training.  Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the ALATG or above preferred
