In return, we’ll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about. Job Summary We are seeking a Laboratory  Data Scientist 1, In Vitro for our Discovery site located in Worcester, MA. 

This position will be responsible for the overall function of the primary LIMS (laboratory information management system) and other software packages used to track client compounds, develop bioanalytical methods for those compounds, generate assay paperwork, and generate and report assay results. This position is hands-on, requiring working with both junior and senior staff in a fast-paced environment where a commitment to teamwork, quality data, and speed is essential.

 

Successful candidates in this position will: Create, test, troubleshoot, and improve elements of the LIMS working in conjunction with the LIMS development company and internal IT services General maintenance and upgrades for various systems used throughout In Vitro to capture/manage/analyze data Primary contact for In Vitro staff and outside developers/contractors for automated assays (using high-throughput robotic systems), as well as various data capture and processing systems used within the group Create, test, troubleshoot, and improve automated assay methods (some wet lab work required) Customize data output for clients as required Ensure raw data records are accurate, complete and in appropriate order Ensure that raw data meets protocol, SOP and regulatory requirements Mentor and train junior staff 

 

The following are minimum requirements related to the Data Scientist, In Vitro position.

Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent in a scientific related discipline. Related Master's degree (M.S./M.A.) 

Experience:  Minimum 5 years related experience in the contract research, academic, or pharmaceutical industry, to include at least 2 years as a Scientist or equivalent role. 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Certification/Licensure: none

Other:  Experience with database platforms (e.g., mySql) • Experience with scientific LIMS systems (e.g., ActivityBase, BioRails/Morphit) • Experience with programming languages: [e.g., Visual Basic, Python, R (preferred knowledge of tidyverse packages), Java, SQL, Javascript] • Experience with relational and document databases (e.g., mySQL, mongoDB) • Familiar with Jira project management software.  Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines under minimal direction. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations. Proficiency in the use of software for automated liquid handlers, with the ability to troubleshoot for routine and non-routine work.
