Partner with cross-functional teams to develop new products and services to expand the Microbial Solutions product portfolio. Manage projects, perform experiments, analyze data, and present results to stakeholders.

We are seeking a R&D Scientistfor ourMicrobial Solutions site located Newark, DE.

The following are responsibilities related to theR&D Scientist:

• Collaborate with R & D team members and external partners on technology evaluation and product development projects related to microbial identification and detection.

• Design and perform experiments to evaluate, develop, and optimize assays; ensure attention to detail in record keeping and result verification.

• Analyze data, summarize trends, and present results from R & D experiments.

• As required, manage technology evaluation and/or product development projects.

• Apply advanced data analysis approaches to find solutions and develop products.

• Use scientific literature, conferences, market research and patent databases to plan and guide projects.

• Assist R & D with presenting potential new technologies and scientific results both internally and externally.

• Support R & D efforts in responding to customer, QA, Operations and field-support questions.

• As required, participate in training CRL staff about new products and services.

• Maintain productive relationships with internal and external collaborators.

• Maintain freezer stocks of microbial isolates of all assigned projects.

• Provide routine maintenance, repair and cleaning of relevant laboratory equipment.

• Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP and MSDS sheets.

• Ensure that all regulatory and GMP compliance requirements are met and adhered to in the development process.

• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

The following are the minimum qualifications related to the R&D Scientist:

• Education: Master’s Degree (M.A. / M.S.) or PhD Degree in Biological or Chemical Science, or Bioengineering, or related discipline required.

• Experience: Three to six years laboratory experience in Molecular or Microbiology, and/or Biochemistry field. Technical understanding of microbiology and molecular biology methods including DNA extraction procedures, Sanger and/or Next Generation Sequencing, primer design, quantitative PCR. Experience with Microbial Identification by Sequencing or MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry or other methods preferred. Knowledge of Spectroscopy, Experimental design, Bioinformatics, Multivariate statistics or Chemometrics, Machine Learning a plus.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

• Certification/Licensure: None.

• Other: Working knowledge of Quality Systems. Formal presentation skills and attention to detail needed.
