About Brazilian Clinical Research Institute (BCRI)

The Brazilian Clinical Research Institute (BCRI) is an academic research institution or, in English, Academic Research Organization (ARO), being the first ARO created in Latin America. Founded in 2008, it was created with the objective of improving, formalizing and professionalizing the operational and scientific aspects inherent to the development and conduction of clinical research; respecting the ethical principles and national and international regulations. BCRI is based on four pillars of excellence: Education, Ethics, Knowledge and Quality, all with a common goal, to improve the health and quality of life of patients in Brazil and Latin America.
BCRI represents an extension in Latin America of the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), the largest Academic Research Organization (ARO) in the world. Its staff includes faculty members from relevant institutions, all of whom are prominent in the national and international arena. Created by clinical doctors and researchers, the BCRI aims to bring research closer to clinical practice, with the patient at the centre of its actions. Thus, clinical experience associated with academic focus can be translated into high credibility and national and international reputation. Such visibility has enabled the formation of a broad collaboration between BCRI and national and international companies, as well as with governmental bodies such as the National Institutes of Health-NIH (BCRI is ARO partner of NIH studies in Brazil). As a product of this work, BCRI presents participation and/or operational coordination in an extensive list of projects considered "water divisors" in medicine, such as: ARISTOTLE, APPRAISE 2, TECOS, EXSCEL, EUCLID, IMPACT-AF, ODYSSEY OUTCOMES, AUGUSTUS, ISCHEMIA, ISCHEMIA-CKD, I RBH, SECURE-PCI, BRACE-CORONA, ACTION, ACTIV 4a, ACTIVE 4c, among many others.
BCRI's duties include Study Planning, Academic Leadership, Project Management and Centre Management and Monitoring, Regulatory Processes, Clinical Event Classification (CEC), Pharmacovigilance and Quality Studies.
Thus, in addition to national and international leadership in conducting research, and consequent generation of knowledge, BCRI has in its "DNA" the training of research professionals and we identified that there is an unmet demand in the training of researchers in Brazil.
