In return, we’ll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about. Animal Care Technician 2 Cares for the animals used in research and development studies. Performs duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment by laboratory technician or maintaining inventory and animal identification records. Performs cleaning/sanitation of animal facility and equipment. Responsible for bio-safety and bio-security of the animals. May partner with pre-clinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-op care and monitoring of animal studies.

We are seeking a Animal Care Technican 2 for our Insourcing Solutions site located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The following are responsibilities related to the Animal Care Technician 2: 

Provide general & specialized husbandry following established Guidance Documents. Recognize and report complex signs of clinical illness and provide treatment as instructed at the by veterinary staff. Perform post-surgical observations and associated record keeping. Perform basic technical skills such as fasting, body weights and food/water measurements. Perform animal identification (ear notching, tattooing, microchip). Set up breeding pairs, performing plug checks, conducting weaning and collecting samples for genotyping; maintain colony records. Perform genotyping and database collection. May provide study support on minimally invasive techniques including, but not limited to, treadmill acclamation, nair/shaving, tumor measurements, etc. May provide instruction to others on husbandry and technical procedures.

Monitor and analyze trends in room log data. Assist with receipt and shipments (exportation). Perform sentinel and index sample collection procedures. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of operations and equipment. Assist in scheduling various preventative and corrective maintenance tasks. Assist in technical procedures (aseptic surgery, dosing, tissue collection, necropsy) as instructed. Animal Care Technician 2 The following are minimum qualifications related to the Animal Care Technician 2 position: 

Education & Exp:  Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related discipline and 1 year related experience or CVT/LVT/RVT certification and one 1 years related research husbandry and technical experience OR High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years related research husbandry and technical experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the ALAT level/CALAS initial level required. LAT preferred.
