IMPORTANT:   In order to be considered for this position, a resume/CV must be uploaded and submitted during the application process.  Please make sure work history and education are added correctly.    Job Summary We are seeking a Laboratory Supervisor, Bioassay Services to work in our RADS Department at our Wilmington, MA location.

 

The Laboratory Supervisor will supervise bioassays services personnel and activities related to the laboratory and ensure achievement of departmental goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: Plan, direct, coordinate, and schedule the activities of the Avian testing department, including SPF commercial flock testing, through hands-on technical support, delegation of responsibilities and duties in compliance with SOPs. Assist management with hiring and, if necessary, disciplining of departmental personnel.  Assist management in evaluating employee performance during scheduled reviews/merit increases.  Assist in identifying objectives and defining goals of departmental subordinates. Serve as a model to departmental subordinates as it relates to effective time management and utilization of resources.  Provide leadership and motivation to all departmental personnel. Train departmental subordinates and assign tasks consistent with individual strengths. Handle biological materials from multiple animals species; some biological materials may require Biosafety level two (BSL-2) precautions. Perform routine tests for monitoring of SPF flocks in accordance and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform routine cell culture on mammalian cells. Prepare and provide final testing reports and/or technical assistance to customers via verbal and/or written communications. Host and lead customer audits with clients. Interact with and provide technical assistance to customers as required to resolve customer request inquiries and complaints. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of routine testing reagents and departmental supplies. Report all weekly departmental exceptions to Laboratory Manager or designee. Assist in order creation of commercial and/or intercompany samples in the data management system. Review departmental function during internal and external customer/visitor tours. Responsible for complying with all SOPs, policies, safety procedures and departmental SOPs. Responsible for ensuring department is maintained in a clean and orderly condition and that the department adheres to established safety procedures.  Ensure that departmental equipment is maintained in good working condition. This position may require occasional domestic travel. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a technically related field (e.g. Biology) or related discipline. Four to six years of related technical and administrative experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Technical knowledge of immunoassays. Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written directions accurately. Ability to multi-task. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient in Computers (IE:  MS Office Suite).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Cell culture experience.
