IMPORTANT:   In order to be considered for this position, a resume/CV must be uploaded and submitted during the application process.  Please make sure work history and education are added correctly.    Job Summary We are seeking a Research Surgeon for our Laboratory Animal Medicine & Surgery department, site located in Senneville (Greater Montreal area) in Canada.

 

The Research Surgeon executes established surgical and technical procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).This surgeon is responsible for perioperative preparation in addition to  training technical staff on routine care for animals encompassing surgical and/or advanced techniques. The Research Surgeon works in concert with other research surgeons research associates, and veterinary, scientific, and technical personnel to support established animal models in addition to other models in the midst of optimization or development.

 

The following are responsibilities related to the Research Surgeon position :  To perform study specific surgeries in a wide variety of laboratory animal species. Offer surgical and technical support on studies (e.g.: surgery room preparation, sterile assistant, perform advances techniques) including complete peri-operative care and oversight for the animals. Work closely with the other surgeons in the development of new procedures, refinements and/or by supporting current procedures. To help support different departments by providing technical expertise. Ensure adequate training of technical personnel with subjects related to surgery and/or basic techniques as delegated. Perform follow-ups on animals that underwent surgery to ensure their well-being whilst appropriate surgical and/or veterinary staff. Must regularly communicate with employees/customers

 

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Research Surgeon position : DEC in Animal Health, or equivalent. 2 years of experience in animal surgery or relevant experience. English comprehension is mandatory. Bilingualism is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered an acceptable substitute for specific education and experience as listed above. CALAS certification is an asset. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Effective time management. The ability to work in a team.
