Job Summary

Our Microbial Solutions/Accugenix team  located in Newark, DE is seeking a Laboratory Manager for NGS. 

BASIC SUMMARY:

This role will manage the implementation and growth of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) services. This is a start up role within Operations and is not a Remote role. 

ESSENITAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•    Lead the implementation and manage the growth of NGS services by actively collaborating with cross-functional teams such as R&D, IT, Quality Assurance, and Customer Care.  •    Manage and develop laboratory staff to ensure effective laboratory operations to include scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback     on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance, merit increases and salary reviews.  •    Develop and implement strategies to address process improvements.   •    Work with other operations staff to ensure efficient and accurate sample processing to meet customer needs.   •    Collaborate with R&D and Process Development Specialists to optimize NGS workflows and     establish workflows for new applications. •    Manage laboratory activities by utilizing various technology platforms including but not limited to NGS, Sanger sequencing, MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry and/or quantitative PCR to ensure optimum performance of the laboratory.  •    Establish and provide continual evaluation of work procedures and processes that support CRL and departmental standard, procedures, and strategic directives.  •    Collaborate with Regulatory Compliance to ensure qualifications, preventative maintenance, repairs, and cleaning processes are performed on all laboratory equipment. •    Collaborate with Regulatory Compliance and Customer Care to report, record and resolve Out of Specification (OOS) findings, deviations, and customer complaints. •    Collaborate with Customer Care to resolve discrepancies with customer samples. •    Assist with the validation and requalification of laboratory equipment and assays. •    Provide backup for all laboratory functions. •    Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

•    Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Microbiology or related discipline. Graduate degree preferred. •    Experience: Six or more years' experience in Molecular or Microbiology laboratory. •    Experience with microbial DNA extraction and NGS workflows for microbial detection, profiling and/or Strain Typing preferred.  •    Experience operating Illumina and Oxford Nanopore systems a plus. •    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. •    Certification/Licensure: None. •    Other: Working knowledge of the quality systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

•    Regularly operates a computer, Sequencers, PCR systems, Tape station, and/or MALDI-TOF  mass spectrometer. •    Regularly communicates with employees.
