  Job Summary Perform routine processing of tissues to produce microscopic slides (trimming, embedding, cutting, operation of tissue processor, staining, slides quality check). Perform method development (special stains). Assist Team Leader to coordinate the performance of technical procedures. We are currently looking for a Senior Technician for our Histology team located in Laval (greater Montreal area), Quebec.

The following are responsibilities related to the position: Perform technical procedures required in the process of slide preparation for histological evaluation of animal organs/tissues collected at terminal investigation of animals assigned to a study (investigation or development); Prepare all histology material; Ensure data integrity; Complete data collection; Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); Ensure that work performed is in accordance with the requirements of a study plan and in full compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) (where these conditions apply); Train new technicians, if required; Ensure with the shipping coordinator that samples are sent to clients in good order; Prepare chain of custody documentation, if required; Pack samples for shipment; Maximize the utilization of all resources; Manage time effectively; Remain informed on all legislation and developments related to job through self-education and external training; Substitute for and/or assist department colleagues; Perform any other reasonable tasks that may be required. Job Qualifications The following are the minimum qualifications related to the position: Collegial Diploma in chemistry, biology or equivalent; A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; Strong practical knowledge of histology techniques; Good knowledge of related legislation, principles, practices and procedures; Strong knowledge and application of GLP; Reading of English is required. Bilingualism is preferable; Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; Strong problem solving and analytical skills; Detail oriented and meticulous; Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to change; Flexibility to work on changing work schedules; Ability to work in a team environment; Working knowledge of related computer applications.

Working environment: Work is constantly performed in a laboratory environment; Considerable sensory attention is required on a regular basis; Work schedule requires flexibility as per job requirements; Work with tissues from all species, possible radioactive materials or with materials of higher toxicity levels.
