Supervise Animal Care staff and assist in performing general care of laboratory animals, sanitizing animal areas and laboratory equipment as well as other common areas.

Specific Responsibilities will include:

• Prepare work schedules and assign tasks to animal care personnel (e.g. filter changes, sanitizing, cage changes, watering, feeding, mopping, sweeping, etc.).

• Oversee and assist in cleaning of vivarium and vivarium-associated facilities.

• Support the animal health and welfare program including enrichment, housing conditions, and animal care maintenance logs according to BOP requirements.

• Ensure that all SOPs are properly updated and adhered to by the animal care staff.

• Provide vivarium specific EH&S support for the site

• Support the IACUC chair with IACUC-related responsibilities, including AAALAC compliance

• Monitor room records to assure that they are filled out completely and comply with SOPs.

• Assist in vivo staff with unpacking and cage preparation for arriving animals

• Prepare feed, bedding, and caging orders for supplier.

• Ensures optimum performance of the department function. Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity and increase efficiencies.

• Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise.

The following are minimum requirements related to theSupervisor, Animal Careposition:

Education: Associates Degree (A.S.) in Veterinary Services, Bachelor’s Degree (B.S). in Animal Science or ALAS Certification or equivalent experience.

Experience: 3 to 5 years experience in care for laboratory animals. 1-2 years direct experience with relevant species preferred. 1 year supervisory experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Certifications and Licensures: ALAT required. LATG, or ALAT preferred

Other: Good communication, time management and leadership skills. Job Qualifications
