We are seeking an experienced data engineering lead to be part of our team which builds AI & machine learning products.

In this role you will partner with Data scientists, Software engineers to build products to solve healthcare problems

A typical day might include:

  • Drive data vision and strategy for the team of Data Engineers

  • Setting technical direction for others to follow

  • Design and develop data processing in Scala

  • Mentor and support team

  • Collaborate with partners from other teams  to design and develop data/architectural roadmap.

  • Drive process improvements and automation

  • Part of an agile scrum team.

Our ideal candidate: Experience

  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science or similar

  • Minimum 7  years commercial experience Scala and Spark writing highly performant code

  • Minimum 5 years experience in data modelling and scalable data architecture.

  • Experience in building data roadmaps and leading large data engineering team.

Our ideal candidate: Tech Skills

  • Proficient in Scala, Java and SQL

  • Strong experience with Apache Spark, Hive/Impala and HDFS

  • Familiar with Python, Unix/Linux, Git, Jenkins, JUnit and ScalaTest

  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources

  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB

  • Experience with any of the following distributions of Hadoop - Cloudera/MapR/Hortonworks.

Bonus points for experience with:

  • Other functional Languages such as Haskell and Clojure

  • Strong interest in functional programming

  • Experience in NoSQL with ElasticSearch

  • Knowledge of REST API development

  • Big Data ML toolkits such as Mahout, SparkML and H2O

  • Apache Kafka, Apache Ignite and Druid

  • Container technologies such as Docker

  • Cloud Platforms technologies such as DCOS/Marathon/Apache Mesos, Kubernetes and Apache Brooklyn.

The Team

This high-profile team work on ground-breaking problems in health outcomes across disease areas including Ophthalmology, Oncology, Neurology, Chronic diseases (such as diabetes), and a variety of very rare conditions. The Predictive Analytics team works hand-in-hand with statisticians, epidemiologists and disease area experts across the wider global RWS team, leveraging a vast variety of anonymous patient-level information. The data encompasses IQVIA’s access to over 530 million anonymised patients as well as bespoke, custom partnerships with healthcare providers and payers.
