  Job Summary We are seeking a Clinical Veterinarian 3 for our Insourcing Solutions site in Poolesville, MD. This position is offering a $3k signing bonus.

 

The responsibilities of the CV3 will be: Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.   Diagnose and provide treatment plans for research rodent and nonhuman primate species.  Successfully cross-train other veterinarians in those animal models, research-specific tasks and procedures learned.  Lead, train and mentor veterinary technicians in the evaluation, clinical care and treatment of rodent and nonhuman primate species.  Evaluate the skill sets and identify the needs of veterinary technicians for work in AHCS positions.  Assess and determine proficiency of the veterinary technical staff. Read and review animal study proposals to provide input to the veterinary care aspect of the research proposed. Complete in-depth reviews of protocols by non-NINDS institutes and provide input to investigators concerning their research and plans for animal health and wellbeing.   Review and monitor protocols in progress to ensure that animal surgeries and procedures are performed as approved by the User’s Animal Care and Use Committee.   Review, recommend and initiate policies, practices and procedures according to NIH guidelines and Animal Health and Care Section standard operating procedures.  Inspect facilities for semiannual, annual and periodic reviews by the ACUC, OACU, and  AAALAC, etc. Communicate both verbally and written with investigators, managers and staff regarding procedures performed and on animal health concerns. Maintain and foster good working relationship with customers/clients on daily basis. Actively interacts with management, facility veterinarian(s) and investigators as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance. Assists with maintaining accurate records of animal clinical cases and their progress via an electronic database entry system.

  Job Qualifications  

Education: Degree in Veterinary medicine

Experience:  Two years of relevant veterinary experience with laboratory animals, specifically primates (OW and NW).

Certification/Licensure: Must be board certified in laboratory animal medicine. Must possess a current state license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Proficient in animal veterinary clinical care with primates, rodents and ungulates.

Must demonstrate leadership skills.

Must be skilled in data entry, Microsoft office and database record keeping.

Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with clients, customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
