Job Summary We are looking for a Veterinary Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in South San Francisco, CA.

In the VTII role, you can do that by assisting in certain aspects of managing the veterinary program such as clinical rounds, biosecurity and document review. In addition, ensuring the health and well-being of all laboratory animals, as well as the integrity of the research.

What you will do! 

In the Vet Tech role, you will monitor daily animal health and welfare via clinical observations; maintain electronic records of observations and treatments. You will be responsible for tissue sampling, dosing, and fluid administration and other treatments. In addition, recommend/perform diagnostic procedures to include tissue collection and necropsy; you must have ability to perform or obtain proficiency in specialized model support such as post-op surgical care and study model clinical scoring for treatment plans or endpoint evaluation. Ensure timely response to emergency cases; may assist by performing technical services on behalf of clients, and/or provide training on techniques to researchers or members for site staff.  The VTII will also implement the routine health surveillance program, review and approve health reports from this program. Perform routine reconciliation and audit of controlled substances; and staff proficiency or researcher competency assessments. 

 

You will act the leader for less experience VTs and/or training staff; participate in onboarding of new hires, as well as ongoing mentorship. You will be tasked with reviewing and approving health screening documentation for incoming animal orders. You will be key in providing input into the development and implementation of programmatic documents and identifying areas of potential improvement in practices. Participation in the Post-Approval Monitoring program is important, where you will identify unanticipated experimental outcomes and non-compliance events and reporting accordingly. You will be expected to interact with customers to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to be a technical resource. Assist in overseeing and maintaining quality performance and report non-compliance and animal welfare concerns to the Animal Welfare Team or IACUC. Initiate action to replenish and maintain veterinary supplies. Finally, attend and participate in on-the-job and classroom training sessions and complete all trainings assigned.   

  Job Qualifications Who are we looking for? 

A candidate that possess a  (A.A./A.S.) or (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, veterinary technology, or related discipline. Minimum of 2 - 3 years of veterinary experience or 6 - 12 months directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility. AALAS certification at the LAT level; LATG, CVT, LVT, or RVT certification preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. This role is a Sun-Thurs, or Tues-Sat schedule.
