Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Research Study Technician I for our Insourcing Solutions site located in South San Francisco, CA.

In the RSTI role, you can do that by conducting in vivo experiments in rodents for multiple clients to support research programs. In addition, collaborate with the veterinary staff to ensure that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines, and regulations.

Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. 

 

What you will do!  Routine handling, restraint, identification (including ear notching, tagging) and sexing of common laboratory animals. Ability to distinguish various common laboratory animal strains in accordance with standardized genetic nomenclature and phenotype identification. Perform technical functions required by research protocols such as assist with dilution and dosing calculations;  dosing administrations (PO, SQ, IP, IM, and IV); blood collections (Submandibular, Cardiac); basic necropsy and tissue collection; tumor measurement and body weights. Assist Vet Techs and Veterinarians with follow-up checks, treatments and procedure if needed. Perform health surveillance sample collection procedures. Actively interact with research staff to provide technical assistance.

  Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Research Study Technician 1 position: Education: Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) in animal or laboratory science or related discipline.  Bachelor's (B.A./B.S.) Degree preferred. Experience:  Minimum of six to twelve (6-12) months directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure:  Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from AALAS preferred. Other: Knowledge of hygienic principles and basic animal husbandry.  Knowledge of behavior and appearances of laboratory animals is sufficient to notice deviations from normal. Knowledge and understanding of the following guidelines and regulations: “The Guide”, PHS Policy, and AVMA. Skill in para-veterinary procedures to assist veterinarians and/or researchers.
