Job Summary

BASIC SUMMARY:   Assist execution of all Biosecurity audits (onsite and remote), BioAlert resolution, contamination source identification, and critical equipment risk reviews. A rudimentary understanding of Mechanical systems and HVAC engineering load calculation is required.  A familiarity with vivarium operation and/or design is a plus.  

Support all business units with BioAlert “Action plan” development and equipment/contamination troubleshooting.  Collaborate closely with EHS&S, veterinary, animal welfare, QA, lab services, bacteriology, pest control, CMMS (Maximo), construction project managers, and local site management when need to audit, investigate, and troubleshoot risks.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Work under the direction of senior Biosecurity staff providing technical support to reduce the risk of a biological contamination or critical equipment failure. Apply “critical thinking” techniques by defining the problem and breaking it into basic parts. Analyze available data, using it to interpret issues and communicate findings. Ability to approach challenges from multiple angles and provide a fresh perspective based on observations.  Biosecurity often involves a deeper dive. Leverage fundamental engineering knowledge to resolve technical issues Capacity to analyze system performance to troubleshoot key equipment.   Solve challenges using knowledge of automation, electrical, steam, chilled water, HVAC, compressed air, and water systems.   Develop technical solutions for issues impacting operations. Ability to safely work in a manufacturing environment and communicate effectively with site maintenance personnel to resolve technical issues both onsite and remotely.   Ability to safely work in a manufacturing environment and communicate effectively with site maintenance personnel to resolve technical issues both onsite and remotely.  Strong English skills are required. Duties require proficient writing skills necessary to communicate information, analysis, and persuasive points of view effectively.  Duties will include drafting reports, action plans, and inspection narratives.  Review and revise existing Global Biosecurity Imperatives and facility SOP’s.  Leverage best practices across the company, by participating in monthly regional Biosecurity meetings and management updates. Assist with onsite Biosecurity audits including the review of key MEP systems  Operations in Asia and the EU require a flexible work schedule.  You will be asked to participate in biweekly Biosecurity updates that take place between 8 and 9 PM (EST) or 6 to 8AM (EST) for our European operation. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering Experience:  Zero to three years professional experience.  A rudimentary understanding of Mechanical systems and HVAC engineering load calculation is required. Certification/Licensure:  Successfully passed the EIT or similar exam is preferred with a strong desire to acquire your PE.  Other:  Excellent technical writing skills and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Proficiency in standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc. Proficiency in CAD/Revit, DOE2, Trane Trace, or Carrier HAPS is beneficial.       

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must regularly operate a computer and occasionally operate other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.  Must regularly communicate with staff/customers; must be able to share written and verbal information accurately. Must occasionally move in and around mechanical/electrical rooms, safely access roofs mezzanines, attics crawl spaces, etc.  Must occasionally climb ladders to access rooftop building equipment. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

COMMENTS: Occasional 10% to 15% international and domestic travel.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $80,000/yr. - $110,000/yr. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
