Job Summary We are seeking an Animal Care Technician 2 for our Insourcing Solutions site located Poolesville, MD.

 

The following are responsibilities related to the Animal Care Technician 2:

  Strictly follows all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas, including room or facility personnel entry and personnel protective equipment use. Monitors daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage/run checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage/run cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. Prepare and distribute daily food rations and enrichment as directed.  Performs or assists with restraint, handling, and manipulation of non-human primates.  Completes all related documentation completely and legibly. Assists in specific research proposals with the NIA research group. Provide prescribed minor treatments as needed.  Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping, supply stocking, and adheres to safety procedures.

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Animal Care Technician 2 position:

  Education:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Experience:  Minimum of 1 year experience performing basic animal care is required. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) eligibility required upon eligibility.
