  Job Summary The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the development of innovative solutions and automations in support of our digital journey principally focused on IT processes across a variety of technologies and platforms. This leadership role will champion the automation of manual processes, support multidisciplinary development teams by developing and optimizing shared components, promote best use of technologies and replace and retire outdated systems.

Stays on top of fast changing technology and invests a lot of energy in learning new capabilities. Early adopter of developments in cloud, web applications and programming languages, continuously learning and applying new languages, frameworks and cloud services. Knowledgeable on industry trends and aware of what the near future will bring. A love for high quality solutions and a passion for continuous improvement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

•Lead and coordinate developer activities as part of a multidisciplinary team which will include process analysts, testers and business and technology experts.

•Understand the business domain and work with business leaders to continuously develop a shared understanding of existing and new technologies, practices and techniques relevant to optimize Charles River business processes.

•Able to take a concept and turn it into a finished feature from user interface to APIs and business logic to underlying and supporting data

•Combine business knowledge, functional, technical and testing skill sets.

•Ensure code follows the latest industry best practices and standards and is compliant with applicable guidelines and regulations (e.g., SOX, SOP, GLP, GMP, etc.).

•Showcase capabilities, cultivate use-cases and drive adoption of new solutions, components, techniques and technologies.

•Challenges ideas and opinions to avoid pitfalls and inefficient solutions and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts to improve value, velocity, quality and security.

•Decipher existing software systems and be able to hook in application to applicable data sources.

•Lead and direct users to provide appropriate information, facilitating change where required.

•Continually improve products with automation, risk mitigation and other practices.

•Work closely with others to identify/isolate software problems and faults.

•Perform all other related duties as assigned. Job Qualifications Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in computer science, process engineering or related discipline.

•Minimum of 10 years related experience as a developer with deep insight into newest technologies and trends, including cloud, DevSecOps and modern web and mobile frameworks like Angular, React, Java Spring Boot, Node.js and languages like JavaScript, Python. PowerShell, bash, Functional languages like Scala, etc.

•An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

•Desirable to have knowledge of OutSystems or other low code development platforms – training will be provided if required.

•Experience and understanding of CI/CD tools (Azure Pipelines preferred), Source control (Git preferred), Data structures and query languages (e.g. T-SQL) and Application monitoring tools and metrics (e.g. Apdex)

•Good understanding of HTTP, TLS and of concepts such as REST, JSON and OAuth.

•Highly-developed understanding of Agile methodologies and use of Application Lifecycle Management tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jira etc)

•Web based programming experience, knowledge of APIs, understanding of standard business technologies and of SQL and non-SQL databases

•Certification/Licensure:  None.

o Must pay attention to detail and create clarity when dealing with ambiguity. 

o Must have well-developed leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills including influencing & aligning.

o Able to apply extensive advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve highly complex and unusual problems.

o Strong communication skills with ability to communicate complex technical concepts and align organization on decisions
