Job Summary We are seeking a highly-motivated, experienced Research Scientist 1 (Stereotaxic Surgery) for our growing Discovery site located in South San Francisco, CA.

The successful candidate is involved in all aspects of the in vivo study operations, including developing, conducting, analyzing and reporting experiments, vivarium management, and client interaction.

Successful candidates in this position will:

• Demonstrate hands-on competencies in designing and executing in vivo behavioral and pharmacological experiments across neuroscience indications.

• Extensive stereotaxic surgery expertise in rodent models

• Have knowledge of in vivo pharmacological monitoring techniques such as microdialysis or EEG.

• Provide guidance to research associates and scientific staff in areas such as protocol interpretation, technique development and refinement, study-related problem resolution, and study interpretation

• Provide scientific expertise in study conduct, design, and interpretation

• Able to work independently as well as within a flexible team environment

• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

• Strong problem solving and time management skills with demonstrated experience working in an exciting, fast-paced environment

The following are minimum requirements related to the Research Scientist 1 (Stereotaxic Surgery) position.

• Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent in a scientific related discipline. Related Master's degree (M.S./M.A.) or PhD/DVM preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience in the contract research, academic, or pharmaceutical industry.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

• Certification/Licensure: Certification as appropriate for specialty preferred.

• Other: Understanding of regulatory requirements of study types assigned, as well as Testing Facility BOPs. Demonstrate leadership skills as they pertain to intra- and interdepartmental initiatives, Sponsor interactions, and business development. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations.
