Job Summary We are seeking an Associate Operations Specialist for our Insourcing Solutions Department to provide continuing support services to our Charles River clients throughout the New England area where you're assigned to various sites based upon need. The AOS home base is in Cambridge, MA. This is a Full-Time position, with paid holidays and a wonderful benefits package. This position is offering a $2K signing bonus.

 

The following are responsibilities related to the Associate Operations Specialist:

 

The AOS will provide support in the following  areas; cagewash, animal care, technical, training and management, to include:

 

Monitoring animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to include: performing daily equipment checks; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning; recording animal health concerns. Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species. These experiences may involve a variety of lab animal species. May be tasked to assist with breeding and weaning procedures. May be tasked to assist with administrative needs including cage card management, perform data entry and review, manage census data. Carry out special assignments, as directed. Initiate the ordering of new animals regarding available caging and space. Provide client support and handle inquires on separations, transfers, etc. Provide instruction to others on husbandry and technical procedures. Oversee all aspects of husbandry care, ensuring that daily procedures are being implemented as outlined in established SOPs. Schedule and conduct audits of facilities to ensure compliance. Create the facility work schedule.

 

Attend and participate in on-the-job and classroom training sessions and complete all assigned computer-based safety and professional development training. Act as subject matter expert in all animal husbandry and routine technical skills. Perform training of staff on husbandry, veterinary case reporting, operations, and routine to advanced technical procedures.  May perform technical training of surgical techniques. Ability to perform or obtain competency in advanced technical procedures as required, such as intravenous or intradermal dose administration, manage breeding operations, perform comprehensive necropsy and tissue collection, perform routine assays or laboratory support. Perform surgical preparation, anesthesia administration and monitoring and post-surgical observations and associated record keeping. May perform routine surgical procedures. Perform health surveillance sample collections. Assist/provide input to Supervisor regarding operations and facility issues as well as personnel management activities such as: scheduling, training, and development, providing regular direction of the facility. 

 

Promptly report facility deficiencies and help formulate a resolution. Address customer request, inquiries, and complaints; inform supervisor of client feedback to allow for mitigation of client concerns. Inspect all equipment for proper operating conditions, assist in scheduling maintenance and keep records of repairs. Ensure proper maintenance of animal records including, room logs, cage card labels, autoclave records, animal census and other records as required. 

  Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Associate Operations Specialist position: Education:  High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.). Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Life Sciences or related discipline preferred. Experience:   Two (2) plus years of animal care, handling and technical experience with in a research laboratory program. Experience as a team or work lead preferred. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the LAT; LATG, CVT, LVT, RVT certification preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Other (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):   Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, client and managers. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and function independently, as well as within a team environment, with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
