  Job Summary We are seeking a Clinical Veterinarian for our Veterinary Sciences department site located in Laval in Canada.

 

Provides professional veterinary services to support or manage oversight of all animal care and use functions involving laboratory animals. Develops, implements and controls procedures related to the acquisition, maintenance, quarantine, and disposition of all research animals including provision of appropriate clinical, preventive and emergency veterinary care for various species. 

 

The following are responsibilities related to the Clinical Veterinarian :  Review and evaluate health status reports and arrival examinations of all animals to ensure they meet Charles River Laboratories requirements; Answer to veterinary care requests; Examine animals, recommend and perform treatments; Ensure follow-up on treatments; Interpret laboratory results; Perform different surgeries and medical procedures, as required; Ensure that work performed is in accordance with the requirements of a protocol and in full compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), whenever applicable; Routinely check each animal room and verify the general good health of the animals and cleanliness of the rooms and cages; Collaborate with study directors and team leaders when needed to develop protocols; Collaborate with toxicology services in the planning of studies; Develop and promote innovative specialized techniques according to Charles River Laboratories’ research orientation.

 

 

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Clinical Veterinarian position: University degree in veterinary medicine (DVM); Be a member in good standing with the Ordre des Médecins Vétérinaires du Québec (OMVQ);  Strong knowledge and application of GLP (asste); Bilingual (written and spoken); Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; Strong problem solving and analytical skills; Ability to work under time constraints and adapt to change; Flexibility to work on changing work schedules; Ability to work in a team environment.
