At our site in High Peak, Derbyshire we have an exciting opportunity available for a Laboratory Technician to join and support our busy and energetic DNA team.

This is a Monday to Friday position - 37.5hrs a week. Open to anyone that wants to start a career in a laboratory, or anyone who has already got experience in a laboratory but wants a new challenge.

  What You'll Be Doing  

Responsible for producing and maintaining sufficient stock levels of LB agar plates, LB media and agarose gels.

Safe operation and maintenance of autoclave (after training).

Cleaning and maintenance of laminar flow hood and incubators.

Involvement with molecular biology techniques including bacterial transformation, DNA extraction, restriction enzyme digests, and gel electrophoresis

To maintain a high standard of laboratory cleanliness and housekeeping in all laboratory areas. This Includes clearing glassware, keeping sink areas tidy, wiping down all laboratory surfaces, making up virkon and ethanol solutions.

Maintain and manage core stocks of consumables in the laboratory. 

Order consumables and keep the storeroom organised and stocked.

Assist with day-to-day laboratory maintenance.

Maintain a high standard of waste management within the laboratories.  This includes the use of autoclaves and following the specified disposal waste streams.

Maintain levels of laboratory buffer solutions.

Assist with the organisation of equipment services. 

SHE - Adhere to health and safety procedures.

Other routine jobs such as tube labelling, lab coat cleaning and freezer defrosting.

Requirement to work in other laboratories to cover absence – fully training will be provided for each lab.

  Skills and Qualifications  

GCSE in Maths and English as a minimum and A levels in science would be advantageous but not essential.

Good organisational, time keeping and communication skills.

Experience of Microsoft applications – excel, word, PowerPoint etc.
