Students in the Laboratory Animal Medicine and Surgery Department will have the opportunity to assist with a variety of tasks within the department. The student will provide support to the vet aid, research and development, and behavior and enrichment groups. Tasks will be assigned as per training, experience and knowledge of the candidates. This position will be of interest to animal health technology and veterinary students.

Tâches/Tasks To adhere to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and organizational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). To work closely with the veterinarian(s) and the team leader(s) to prepare and perform treatment plans. To safely hold and restrain animals during veterinary examinations and interventions. Perform simple medical treatments under veterinary supervision. To identify potential animal welfare and/or health issues and to notify the appropriate resources. May assist Vet Aids with daily tasks, treatments, exams. Ensure study specific anesthesia monitoring and support in a wide variety of laboratory animal species. Perform follow-ups on animals that underwent surgery to ensure their well-being whilst appropriate surgical and/or veterinary staff. Offer surgical and technical support on studies (e.g.: surgery room preparation, sterile assistant, perform advances techniques) including complete peri-operative care and oversight for the animals. To maintain the material resources of the veterinary laboratory. Maintaining surgical suites and support spaces. Ensuring adequate supplies in the surgical suites, ensuring rotation of stock and absence of expired material. Maintaining surgical instruments and equipment in proper working order, including the cleaning, care and sterilization of appropriate supplies. With guidance from Clinical Veterinarians, assists in generating or approving documents and other required forms. Ensures that appropriate documentation is GLP-compliant prior to submission.
