Performs duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment by laboratory technician or maintaining inventory and animal identification records. Performs cleaning/sanitation of animal facility and equipment. Responsible for bio-safety and bio-security of the animals. May partner with pre-clinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-op care and monitoring of animal studies.

We are seeking aBreeding Technician 2for ourInsourcing Solutionssite located inLaJolla, CA.

The following are responsibilities related to theBreeding Technician 2: Manage breeding colonies of approximately 7000 mice including over 25 mutant mouse lines. Implement and maintain mouse breeding program. Create and maintain breeding standard operating procedures. Create and maintain breeding records, updates and logs in an organized manner. Author breeding protocol, submit renewals and amendments to IACUC when necessary. Oversee and monitor space and breeding capacity. Evaluate breeding performance and production. Plan and follow breeding strategies and mating schemes to meet animal production and deadlines. Monitor found dead and health observations. Notify abnormal phenotypes to veterinarian and vivarium supervisor. Perform weaning and animal identification. Oversee ear tags autoclaving and use. Setup timed matings, monitor body weight and perform plug checks.

The following are minimum qualifications related to theBreeding Technician 2position: Education:B.S. in Biology or related life science preferred. Experience:A minimum of 3- 5years colony management experience in a rodent facility required. A combination of education and experience accepted.
