Det er ingen intervensjonelle implikasjoner i denne studien. Studien går under vurdering av retningslinjer for utdanningsprogram for kanadiske hypertensjon og i henhold til standard praksis for omsorg. Datainnsamlingen registreres på de aktuelle saksrapportskjemaene. Dataene som samles inn består av: pasientdemografi (kjønn, rase, alder, vekt), blodtrykksmålinger, hjertefrekvens, sameksisterende komorbiditeter, samtidige kroniske medisiner (generisk navn og dosering), indikasjon og dose for trandolapril (Mavik®) og pasientens etterlevelse . Laboratorieverdier (mikroalbuminuri, estimert glomerulær filtrasjonshastighet) samles kun inn dersom dataene er tilgjengelige for hver pasient. For baseline-verdier (studiedag 0), registreres enhver laboratorieverdi registrert i løpet av det siste året før baseline-besøket (besøk 1), hvis verdien er tilgjengelig. I henhold til anbefalinger fra Canadian Hypertension Education Program og som et støtte- og pedagogisk tiltak, får pasienter (1) pedagogiske verktøy (ernæringsveiledninger) og (2) enheter for blodtrykksmåler hjemme. Omtrent 8000 hypertensive deltakere ble registrert i studien på opptil 700 steder over hele Canada. Prøvestørrelsesberegninger var basert på antakelsen om at 67,2 % av ikke-diabetiske hypertensive deltakere (antatt å utgjøre opptil 69 % av den kvalifiserte deltakerpopulasjonen) ville nå et blodtrykksmål på <140/90 mm Hg, mens 22 % av diabetesdeltakerne (31 % av den kvalifiserte befolkningen) ville nå et blodtrykksmål på <130/80 mm Hg med trandolapril (Mavik®)-behandling.

Inklusjonskriterier:

  • Voksne som er i stand til å gi samtykke og som har ukontrollert hypertensjon
  • Deltakerne var enten behandlingsnaive eller hadde ukontrollert hypertensjon på sin eksisterende antihypertensive medisin.

Ekskluderingskriterier:

  • Deltakerne ble ekskludert fra deltakelse i studien hvis de hadde tatt trandolapril (Mavik®), alene eller i kombinasjon, i mer enn 1 måned før påmelding.
