Evaluation of Photodynamic Therapy as an Adjunct to Non-surgical Treatment in Periodontitis in Smokers vs. Non-smokers

July 6, 2026 updated by: Kastriot Meqa, University of Pristina

Comparison of Photodynamic Therapy vs. Non-surgical Periodontal Treatment in Patients Who Smoke vs. Non-smokers

Patients with moderate periodontal destruction underwent mechanical debridement of the pathological changes from the periodontal pockets in one of the randomly selected quadrants and in another, also randomly selected, quadrant. In addition to non-surgical debridement, photodynamic therapy was applied. This comparison between two treatment options was evaluated between subjects who smoke and non-smokers.
