Effect of Implementing Prevention Measures Through Personalized Information in Emergency Departments on Adherence to Prevention Measures: A Multicenter, Randomized Controlled Exploratory Trial

Prevention, a cornerstone of public health, remains underutilized despite its proven effectiveness. Vaccinations, screenings, reduced consumption of toxic substances, and healthy lifestyle and dietary habits can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality. However, participation rates in France remain low compared to those of neighboring European countries, particularly with regard to cancer screenings and vaccination coverage. A lack of information, motivation, or unequal access hinders adherence to preventive measures. Some of these factors can be addressed.

Emergency departments, although rarely utilized for prevention, serve a diverse population and could serve as a strategic lever for educating the public about preventive health measures.

Personalized information, supported by a digital tool, could improve adherence to preventive measures. An interactive questionnaire was developed to tailor the information provided to patients based on their personal characteristics. The information delivered in this way would be more targeted for each patient and more likely to have a positive impact on the implementation of various preventive measures.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a digital tool that provides personalized prevention information is more effective than general, non-personalized information in improving adherence among patients visiting the emergency department to the preventive measures recommended for them.

Armes et Interventions

Groupe de participants / Bras
Intervention / Traitement
Expérimental: A - Intervention
The first "intervention" group, designated A, is exposed to personalized information via a digital educational tool based on the characteristics entered for them.
The intervention involves providing personalized preventive health information regarding recommended preventive measures based on age, biological sex, weight, height, bedtime and wake-up times, the presence of chronic conditions, and tobacco or alcohol use.
Expérimental: B - Control
The second "control" group, designated B, receives non-personalized information. Using the same digital tool, the patient receives all the preventive health information without it being tailored to the patient. The patient therefore does not see any information specific to him or her.
The intervention involves providing non-personalized preventive health information. The patient receives all the preventive health information without it being tailored to the patient. The patient therefore does not see any information specific to him or her.

Que mesure l'étude ?

Principaux critères de jugement

Mesure des résultats
Description de la mesure
Délai
proportion of patients who adhered to at least 25% of the preventive measures
Délai: 6-8 weeks after the intervention.

The primary outcome measure is the proportion of patients who adhered to at least 25% of the preventive measures for which they were eligible, as assessed 6-8 weeks after the intervention.

Adherence is defined as the completion of a preventive measure or the initiation of steps leading to its completion in the short term

6-8 weeks after the intervention.

Mesures de résultats secondaires

Mesure des résultats
Délai
The proportion of patients who adhered to each of the preventive measures studied.
Délai: 6-8 weeks after the intervention.
6-8 weeks after the intervention.
The proportion of preventive measures taken by the patient, relative to the measures for which the patient is eligible.
Délai: 6-8 weeks after the intervention.
6-8 weeks after the intervention.
The enrollment rate for each epidemiological subgroup (age, sex, whether the patient has a primary care physician, whether the patient has a chronic condition, socioeconomic status).
Délai: 6-8 weeks after the intervention.
6-8 weeks after the intervention.
