Job Summary

We are on a mission to make the Enterprise Data Analytics team be the backbone of today’s business, as data-driven decision-making enables business leaders to make informed choices quickly to boost revenue, improve productivity, and stay a step ahead of the market.
We have already launched our own Enterprise Data Hub, the digital backbone of this company, and we need more leaders in the Data & DevOps discipline who are forward thinking, self-guided and innovative to continue to build out the hub across our lines of business, integrating all of our data, mastering data and focusing on data quality to fundamentally shift the way Charles River operates through data science and advanced analytics. Our Director of Data & DevOps Engineering role requires experience in managing traditional database systems and ETL, Incident Management experience as well as in-depth knowledge of cloud based infrastructure for database platforms utilizing common technologies such as Databases, Storage, Databricks, Log Analytics, Infrastructure as Code deployments. The role will be responsible for database platform migrations from on-premises locations to AWS as part of a rolling company program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead and mentor a team of Data & DevOps Engineers and provide actionable infrastructure solutions for our business partners • Proven and recent experience in Database Management in SQL Server platforms • Proven and recent experience in Cloud infrastructure management best practices • Ensure our data solutions are secured, cost-effective, highly responsive and fit for purpose across our extensive database and storage infrastructure • Champion the use of data, technology & modern tooling to optimize our solutions and provide continuous process improvements • Monitor cloud spend, summarizing spend against budget and recommending cost optimal infrastructure enhancements • Continuously work on building strong Business relationships with our key Business Product Owners • Strong Presentation skills to accurately summarize and describe our solutions to Business Partners and Digital Leadership
Job Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENT: • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, or related fields; Master’s degree is preferred • 10+ years of management experience in a technology organization with a strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams • 10+ years of hands-on SQL Server database engineering and/or administration • 10+ years of data warehousing and ETL tools • 10+ years managing database operations teams • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in information technology • 7+ years building data platforms in the public cloud
PREFERRED SKILLS: • Professional Knowledge/Experience • Proficiency in troubleshooting database issues • Proficiency in Data Warehousing & BI Analytics • Experience with Infrastructure As Code • Familiarity with Database Administration on Oracle platforms
