Jeffrey Buell formed sequence Development in 2012 as a commercial real estate development firm pledging to take an atypical perspective to properties in the 21st century. Sequence approaches each project it undertakes with a focus not on the single building, but on that building’s place in the larger community. With a primary emphasis on historic rehabilitation of mixed-use residential buildings, Sequence understands the importance even small projects play in positive place making and its potential impact on larger economic development initiatives. Since its inception, the development company has enjoyed success by focusing on both the large and small. In Troy, New York, Sequence rehabilitated 22,000 square feet of vacant historic buildings on First Street, creating luxury apartments and new retail outlets including the uber-successful Slidin’ Dirty restaurant. Sequence also oversaw the stabilization and construction of several additional buildings in Troy’s Downtown, including: 207 Broadway (The Grocery), 147 4th Street, and the creation of a new home for Urban Athletics at 251 River Street. In Schenectady, NY Sequence has finished phase one construction on the Foster Hotel Complex on State Street, a 4-building, 48,000 square foot historic rehabilitation that will create 32 apartments and 5 commercial spaces. That total investment will be $6 million and was financed through Capital Bank. The company believes it will create new vibrancy on a once vacant portion of an important urban corridor. In the quaint Village of Hoosick Falls, NY, Sequence is building a new 3-story mixed use building, filling in a corner destroyed by fire, and igniting a new wave of investment into a historically significant Downtown. This $1.1 million project will completed in October of 2015 and was funded with New York State Restore NY monies and construction loan from the Bank of Greene County. Additionally the firm owns and manages a scattered site student housing development consisting of 32 multi-family houses, with a total of 250 beds, rented exclusivly to RPI Students. Building on its growing student housing portfolio, Sequence, in partnership with Redburn Development, recently purchased and refreshed what is now known as The Valley Green an 82 unit apartment complex for students at Hudson Valley Community College.
