Location/Division Specific Information

Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through theexpertiseof scientists, industrythought-leadersand therapeutic guides. This position is based at our GMP analytical testing lab in Athlone, Ireland.

Discover Impactful Work:

The role ofScientist III (Inhalation)is to perform complex laboratory analysis of pharmaceutical products and proficiently uses analytical instrumentation,calculatesand analyses data and records data. Routinely acts as the project leader on multiple projects, interacts with clients,reviewsand evaluates data,writesreports and protocols. Responsible for the scientific conduct of the project and communication of regulatory issues with senior level team members. 

A day in the Life 

• Independently performs method validations, methodtransfersand analytical testing of pharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations. 

• Designs and completes experiments with minimal supervision. 

• Prepares study protocols, project status reports, final studyreportsand other project-related technical documents. 

• Communicates data and technical issues to the client and responds to client needs 

• Mentors,trainsandcoordinateslaboratory activities of other team members andassistsin troubleshooting instruments and analytical problems. 

• Assistsin designing method validation or method transfer protocols andestablishingproject timelines. 

• Reviews data for technical, quality and compliancetoprotocols, methods, SOPs, clientcriteriaand Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). 

Education and Experience

• Educated to a bachelor's degree level in a relevant area,iechemistry, biochemistry 

• 5+ years’ relevant industry experience within a GMP laboratory with experience in HPLC and Empower is essential 

• Experience in Method Validation, Method Transfer and Analytical testing.

• Analytical experience must include analytical testing support for inhalation devices (pMDIs, DPIs, nebulizers, nasalspraysand novel devices)

In somecasesan equivalency, consisting of a combination ofappropriate education,trainingand/ordirectly relatedexperience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

• Demonstratedproficiencywithin a lab environmentto include HPLC, GC, MS, Dissolution testing, Karl Fischer, UV-vis, FT-IR, TOC. 

• Testing experience of inhalation devices with cascade impaction, dosedeliveryand particle size analysis.

• Detailed knowledge of method validation; method development would be an advantage. 

• The ability to plan, schedule and carry out work for successful project completion 

• A positive attitude and ability to work well with others 

• Excellent attention to detail
