Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI): A Knee Health Study

Knæ OA forårsager flere sundhedsproblemer og medicinske udgifter end enhver anden form for gigt. Symptomer på OA kan variere fra stivhed og mild smerte til alvorlige ledsmerter og endda handicap. Tidligere forskning har vist, at visse faktorer, såsom knæsmerter, tidligere knæskade eller knækirurgi, OA i hånden eller fedme, kan føre til knæ OA. OAI er et multicenter, observationsstudie af knæ-OA, der vil indsamle information om potentielle biomarkører for OA og tendenser i OA-start og progression.
OAI vil rekruttere og følge deltagere, der har knæ-OA eller har høj risiko for at udvikle knæ-OA i en otte-årig periode på et af fire kliniske centre. Blod- og urinopsamling, magnetisk resonansbilleddannelse (MRI) og røntgenbilleder vil blive afsluttet ved hvert af fire årlige opfølgningsbesøg. Et spørgeskema og fysisk undersøgelse ved screening vil vurdere for risikofaktorer for udvikling og progression af knæ-OA. Niveauer af knæsmerter og fysisk funktionsnedsættelse vil blive vurderet ved studiestart og ved hvert af opfølgningsbesøgene ved spørgeskema og undersøgelse.

- Tidligere knæskade eller operation
- Knæsmerter det seneste år. Deltagerne behøver ikke at have aktuelle knæsmerter for at deltage i undersøgelsen.
- Forælder eller søskende, der fik udskiftet knæet
Ekskluderingskriterier:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ledudskiftninger i begge knæ
- Ude af stand til at gå uden hjælp
- Ude af stand til at gennemgå MR af knæet
