Senior Manager, Research Services

Location: Italy

What will you be doing?

Effectively manage the activities and development of Research Services staff / Operations Support Staff while supporting and meeting the needs of Research Services and Project Operations management.

The Role

  • Provide coaching and mentoring support to RS Managers, as appropriate.

  • Recognize, exemplify, and adhere to ICON's values which center around our commitment to People, Clients, and Performance.

  • As a manager, the employee is expected to recognize the importance of and create a culture of process improvement with a focus on streamlining our processes, adding value to our business, and meeting client needs.

  • Ensure appropriate issue escalation of findings related to the quality of performance of monitoring or site management activities.

  • Provide feedback on the development and implementation of formal CRA and RMA training. tools and presentations.

  • Implement agreed corrective actions and/or further training as required.

  • Conduct timely performance reviews and appraisals for assigned RS staff.   Ensure clear goals are set.

  • Travel (approximately 25%) domestic and/or international

OVERALL

  • Guide training and development of RS staff to ensure they have the necessary skills to deliver on ICON's standards, targets, and expectations.

  •  Interview, evaluate, and recommend new RS hires.

  • Ensure induction and orientation for newly hired staff occur.

  • Set performance objectives with the RS staff; provides feedback effectively.

  • Identify areas of personal strength and areas for further development of RS staff

  • liaise with internal and external clients on RS-related matters, as necessary.

  • Relate skillfully at an interpersonal level and influence staff and colleagues when necessary.

  • Manage personal, group, and inter-group/ departmental conflicts effectively.

  • Ensure timely reporting of hours for self and staff in Planview.

  • Build and lead a team that is creative, customer-focused, and capable of decision-making, objective setting, planning, and problem-solving.

  • Conduct regular 1:1 meeting with staff and leads regional team meetings.

  • Provide input on promotion recommendations.

  • Assist staff with prioritizing activities and tasks.

  • Develop a work culture that is focused on customer service, results, and continuous change.

  • Oversee implementation of study monitoring plans/metrics as appropriate and agreed upon.

  • Actively participate in process improvement initiatives

  • Actively participate in regular meetings with Project Managers to discuss project strengths and challenges associated with recruitment, site communications, and site responsiveness

  • Provide coaching/mentorship to the Research Services Group Managers; provides strategic guidance for the professional development of RS staff.

  • Coordinate the development of site management reports needed to track departmental and project-level metrics.

  • Contributes to proposal development and participates in bid defenses, as needed.

  • Participate in regular meetings with RS staff and PMs/Directors to discuss project strengths and challenges associated with site identification, recruitment, site management, and site retention.

  • Participate in Project Status Meetings (PSM) and Lesson Learned Meetings (LLM) as needed.

  • Liaise with RS Group Managers, PM/Directors, and Corporate Training to ensure that training needs are identified, training is being provided, and that Research Services staff are working to a satisfactory standard.

  • Assess the overall workload of the global group on an ongoing basis, and provide feedback to Group Managers, PM/Directors, and PRM as appropriate.

  • Actively participate in departmental process improvement initiatives

  • Provide and receive constructive feedback; appreciate team goals,  respect others’ points of view, and seek advice when appropriate

  • Train and mentor staff.

  • Work effectively in a complex business environment including remote staff, subcontractors, and external collaborators.

  • Work in collaboration with internal and external colleagues to meet project objectives, timelines, and budget, Support and follow departmental policies and procedures.

  • Participate in team meetings to maintain effective lines of communication.

  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as needed.

  • Active participation in Lunch and Learns, Journal Clubs, or other internal company training sessions.

  • Actively participate in RS management activities and initiatives

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of practice-specific process documents (e.g., SOPs and Best Practice Guidelines).

  • Responsible for ensuring team compliance with all relevant RS SOPs and Best Practice Guidelines

  • Contribute to the development and tracking of practice goals, budgets,  and other financial metrics for

  • Work independently; successfully handles complex tasks/assignments.

  • Ensure project activities are consistent with project requirements and scope.

What you need

  • Bachelor's, or its international equivalent, in clinical science or health-related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum 2+ years of line management experience.

  • Previous management in the CRO environment.

  • Extensive experience using computerized information systems is required; experience with PC-Windows, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets is required.

  • Substantial experience supervising or managing professional staff in a clinical research environment.

  • Read, write, and speak fluent English.

  • Thorough knowledge of Il regulatory authority regulations regarding drug research and development
