LabCorp is seeking a Laboratory Director to join our team in Los Angeles, CA.  This is a great leadership opportunity, where you will have the opportunity to facilitate innovation, manage change, and foster team building to provide the highest quality product for our word-class diagnostics laboratory!   This position will have the overall responsibility for the direction of laboratory operations with an emphasis on productivity, quality and cost effectiveness.

Pay Range:  $140,000- $180,000 (annually)

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-430pm

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, and staffs the laboratory to meet the needs of the clients.
  • Reviews overall performance of the laboratory, Including, but not limited to, quality control, quality assurance, reported reference ranges, and type of reports submitted to clients.
  • Assures compliance with the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assures that the quality of laboratory results is at the highest practical level.
  • Oversees performance of all testing personnel including annual competency reviews.
  • Ensures that labs have an adequate and safe physical environment.
  • Assesses the need for new equipment.
  • Participates in the budgeting and planning process for the laboratory.
  • Establishes acceptable productivity levels and effective cost control measures.
  • Initiates and maintains proper lines of communication with lab personnel and management.
  • Supervises staff including coaching, performance management, training, interviewing and hiring
  • Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job related duties as requested.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related life science(Required)
  • At least 10 years applicable laboratory experience (or an advanced degree, e.g. PhD) and demonstrated knowledge and competency in the following:company philosophy, mechanics and test procedure calculations, sample stability and test requirements, quality control and performance requirements, principles of the tests, special test related issues and precautions, and reagents required and preparation.Demonstrated ability to interact with others to achieve desired results. (Required Work Experience)
  • Clinical Chemistry Board certification (DABCC) and FADLM (preferred)
  • Minimum 6 years of clinical laboratory experience within a supervisory or management role.
  • Clinical Chemistry certification or any other equivalent laboratory certification. (Required)
  • CA License (Preferred)
  • Prior experience in a high volume, large diagnostic lab or hospital environment.
  • Familiar with new laboratory instrumentation and equipment automation.
  • Strong working knowledge of supply chain operations and expense control.
  • Ability to communicate with a heavy customer focus when working with client leadership.
  • Previous experience managing multiple locations is highly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures.
  • Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office Strong communication skills; both written and verbal High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Requires sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, with occasional walking and standing.
  • There is possible exposure to potential blood-borne pathogens.
