Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be the day-to-day contact person for trade compliance issues across regional MSD locations (including Australia, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand).
  • Support the GTC (Global Trade Compliance) Regional Manager in APJ to drive the strategic direction of trade compliance processes to meet corporate risk parameters and the current requirements of all countries and regions with which business is being conducted.
  • Act as the day-to-day contact person for trade compliance issues from APJ divisional sites.  Review and approve individual Sales and Service transactions, or raise to GTC Regional Manager in APJ, based on global standards and the defined way of working.
  • Undertake Denied Party Screenings and evaluate potential matches and release holds.
  • Participate in regular meetings and trainings with the GTC Regional Manager, and identify and communicate issues requiring attention or recent trends identified in the region.
  • Support APJ sites with compliance-related questions and ad-hoc HS classification requests in accordance with local HS schedules.
  • Work with freight forwarders, customs officials, custom brokers, and internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to trade compliance regulations.

Non-negotiable Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in import and export compliance.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • 3 - 5 years in trade compliance management with proven experience leading trade compliance activities in a multinational company. 
  • Experience with direct supervision of activities involving global import/export.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to work autonomously from established goals and strategic direction.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing priorities
  • Work independently and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across corporate functions, and
  • Read and interpret government regulations.
