Job Summary

The position of Manager, and SR&ED is based at our Senneville site. This role is responsible for preparing the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit for Charles River Laboratories in Canada. This role will work with the Tax Manager to prepare the SR&ED claim, gather documentation to support the SR&ED tax credit and assist with related tax audits. In addition, responsible for monthly SR&ED reports. The Manager, SR&ED also participates in other tax-related audits, manages deliverables and responses, and coordinates with other groups to gather required information.

In this role, primary responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare project eligibility based on SR&ED criteria
  • Prepare the project descriptions and gather necessary documentation; liaise with scientific and financial teams
  • Prepare detailed project costing for the SR&ED claim including costing summaries
  • Prepare the tax schedules related to the SR&ED claim for tax consultant to include as part of the tax returns as well as provide final project descriptions for inputting into the returns
  • Assist tax director with SR&ED related tax audits at the Federal and provincial levels; communicate with auditors, prepare responses to audit queries, provide required documentation and partner with tax director for completion
  • Prepare monthly SR&ED calculations and related tax entries

Key Elements

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Science, Finance, Accounting or related discipline.
  • Five to Seven years related SR&ED experience in writing of project descriptions and preparing costing. Experience with life science companies preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Must be eligible for employment in Canada. French and English fluency required.
  • Strong communications and organization skills required. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced), Word, and PowerPoint.
