Job Summary

At our world class facility in Elphinstone, Tranent, our Toxicology Sciences Department currently has exciting employment opportunities for two Assistant Safety Pharmacology Technicians.

Department Information

The Toxicology Sciences Department within Charles River is engaged in regulatory toxicology, encompassing: general, inhalation, reproductive toxicology, and safety pharmacology.  The Assistant Technician role sits within our safety pharmacology team which is made up of technicians and study directors working together to deliver world class data and report quality to our Sponsors. There is a formal progression scheme for the role and excellent training and mentoring is provided to support the growth and development of staff.

Key responsibilities:

In Vivo Large Animal/Data Analysis Technician

You will assist in the set-up of experiments and the analysis of data gathered during investigation of cardiovascular (heart waveform and blood pressure) and respiratory (breathing rate and volume) parameters in large animals, using a variety of specialist hardware and software, in support of safety pharmacology and toxicology studies.

In Vivo Small Animal Technician

You will be involved in animal handling, assisting in gathering data during investigation of observed animal behaviors. You will also be involved in handling animals and carrying out experiments designed to collect data on respiratory (breathing rate and volume) parameters in small animals. These experiments will use a variety of specialist hardware and software, in support of safety pharmacology and toxicology studies.

Applicants should have:

  • HND or relevant higher qualification.
  • Having an interest in learning about animal behaviour, the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and how to collect and analyse relevant data, would be an asset
  • A desire to work as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

The salary for this role is £24,638.06 per annum.
