The following are responsibilities related to theAssistant Facility Manager:

Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area. Cares for and maintains laboratory animals in accordance with Animal Welfare Act and the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as, policies and Guidelines and other pertinent regulations and policies. Oversees and coordinates the daily activities of the animal facility to include scheduling of staff for both work days and weekends. Operates and maintains equipment and supplies according to SOPs, safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures. Complies with safety policies and procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances. Oversees all aspects of husbandry support, to include related paperwork, cage change scheduling, and supplies. Actively interacts with Project Officers, facility veterinarian(s) and investigators as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints. Works with subordinate employees to ensure that all work is performed according the task Statement of Work. Participates in interviewing applicants for open positions, developing performance improvement plans, and writing employee performance evaluations. Assists in assessing training needs, as well as, developing and presenting training for staff and investigators Performs technical functions required by research protocols such as daily clinical observations, preliminary health exam of sick animals prior to reporting to the Clinical Veterinarian. Oversees the animal surveillance program related to the husbandry staff. Occasionally provides technical support (e.g. restraining animals, collecting blood, collecting tissues, performing injections, treatments, surgical preparation, assisting with research procedures). Occasionally provides animal husbandry and environmental enrichment for colony animals.

The following are minimum qualifications related to theAssistant Facility Manager position:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Experience: 3 or more years’ experience in a laboratory rodent and rabbit facility. Leadership experience highly desired or ability to demonstrate ability to lead. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG).
