Overview

The successful candidate will assist the Facility Manager with the day to day management of the facility and deputise in their absence. As Team Leader, the successful candidate will co-ordinate the animal husbandry work of the facility. You will assist the Facility Manager with the recruitment, training and assessment of new staff with in-house policies and procedures as well as working to Home Office regulations and performance management. You will manage both licensed and unlicensed scientific procedures along with daily husbandry and maintenance to assist the technicians as required. Responsibility of Management of External Clients Projects including but not limited to ADME/PK studies, Discovery Projects and the use of rooms by external clients.

Together with managing the team, you will lead and coordinate in vivo projects through effective client interactions. You will be expected to deliver exceptional product quality and customer service through frequent, open communications with clients and work closely with other departments within the business to achieve shared project goals.

The CRADL site provides  DMPK and PK to assist drug discovery, with an emphasis on mechanism of action & efficacy studies.. Our offering feeds seamlessly into the wider Charles River international expertise which spans early drug discovery through to clinical trials.

Location - Hertfordshire 

Hours - Monday - Friday 8.00 am - 4.00 pm (35 Hrs pw)

The role holder will act as Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO), and shall be the primary point of contact for the CRADL users and manage all Projects and interaction with CRADL clients, providing advice and guidance regarding Home Office regulations, reviewing study plans to ensure appropriate allocation of resources and compliance. Knowledge of relevant Home Office, and Health and Safety legislation is important, as is knowledge and experience in the principals of aseptic surgery and specialised breeding technique.

Responsibility for the training and all necessary records to be compliance with company and Home office requirements.Participate in training sessions as and when necessary and actively identify and utilise training opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD).

Responsibility of Management of External Clients Projects including but not limited to ADME/PK studies, Discovery Projects and the use of rooms by external clients.

Requirements of the role 

  • Experience supervising or managing staff
  • Supervise and monitor closely the welfare and production of the animal colonies.
  • Coordinate resources and team members efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor and report on project production level with GEMS project co-ordinators, CRADL and production.
  • In depth experience of working within a Facility is essential, as are excellent communication skills.
  • IAT Level 3 or equivalent, Home Office Licence modules A - E and will be a Personal Licence holder.
  • Ability to use a computerised data management system and have previous experience working in a supervisory / team leader role.
  • Provide cover for other members of the team as and when necessary.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of an efficient Quality Management System.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered to (including correct wearing of PPE), liaising with the H&S representative where appropriate.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties that may or may not be related to the job as requested by Management.

Skills and Experience

  • Can demonstrate line management skills (ideally within industry) with a true passion to continue working in a line management role and helping develop and train staff to the best of their abilities.
  • Has the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, multitask, deadline-orientated environment.
  • Holds or has held a Home Office Personal License under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
  • Has knowledge and experience of compound formulations, regulated procedures, administering substances by a variety of routes, sampling and dissection for ex vivo analysis. Prior experience performing ex vivo sample analysis would be a benefit.
  • Has the ability to work independently, show initiative and lead others as part of an integrated team.
  • Has excellent computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office.
  • Is detail-orientated with optimal written and oral communications skills
