Charles River Discovery are excited to be recruiting for a Lead Facilities Engineer to work across our Saffron Walden and Harlow sites in the UK. 

The Facilities Engineer will work within an established Facilities team to carry out high quality maintenance tasks in a timely manner, ensuring that the buildings are always operational to the relevant industry standards.  There may also be a need to travel to our other sites in Derbyshire and Portishead on an ad-hoc basis. This is an onsite role, with the successful applicant expected to be present at either our Saffron Walden or Harlow site as needed. 

What you’ll be doing: •    Ensure that Planned Preventative Maintenance & Reactive Maintenance is carried out to all buildings through the operation of a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made. •    Responsible for the statutory compliance of required regulations and ensuring all records are kept up to date and ready for inspection both internally, by our clients, or any other external body. •    Keep up to date with latest safety, compliance, and best practices relevant to the facility.  •    Accurate recording of all work undertaken for compliance and audit purposes. •    Ensure that plant faults and defects are swiftly remedied to always maintain plant in serviceable order. •    Calculate and compare costs for required goods or services on a regular basis to achieve maximum value for money, including regular review of contractor agreements and alternative delivery solutions. •    Ensure that suitable spares are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works. •    Issue and manage Permits to Work for contractors working within the buildings. •    Completion of documentation as required, including RAMS and adhere to all associated permits. •    Carrying out engineering problem solving when required •    Assist in the design, development and modification of new and current site equipment. •    Comply fully with Health, Safety & Environmental policies. •    Close collaboration with support functions within Charles River including Purchasing, Real Estate, EHS and Finance. •    Effective management and prioritisation of your workload. •    Participation in standby rota for emergency calls, outside normal working hours. •    Ad hoc duties as required by the Facilities Manager.

Requirements:  •    Qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (mechanical/electrical preferred).  •    Demonstrable hands-on experience of carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance activities for large commercial facilities (lab/hospital preferred but not essential).  •    Excellent working knowledge of using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) confidently with minimal supervision.  •    Experience of Building Fabric Maintenance. •    Experience in Facilities Maintenance including Chillers, HVAC, Air Handling Units, Compressed Air and Water Systems •    Enthusiastic and positive manner, able to always communicate in a professional and courteous manner across different platforms such as: Teams, face to face and over the phone. •    Experience of working with 3rd party contractors and vendors – able to host and book in visits as needed.  •    Able to travel between our Saffron Walden and Harlow sites, with own transport.  •    Have a proactive approach to maintenance and building management, able to use their initiative to find resolutions and act accordingly.  •    Strong working knowledge of building maintenance statutory compliance regulations.  •    Proven time management skills, able to assess and prioritise logically and make informed, timely decisions.

Desirable: •    Previous experience of managing laboratory facilities.
