Job Summary

This internship will provide the opportunity to work in an R&D environment evaluating new applications for, and current performance of, microbial identification systems based on Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, or DNA Sequencing. By working directly with R&D team members, the intern will get hands-on experience designing and executing experiments, analyzing raw data, assessing the impact of the data, and evaluating the potential effect on operational efficiencies.

The intern will be responsible to collect metadata on microorganisms to support microbial database development. They will assist with planning and executing experiments and in the analysis of R&D and/or Operations data to deduce and monitor trends. They will prepare samples for processing by Mass Spectrometry and/or DNA sequencing instruments as well as organize, compile, and analyze data and are expected to present their results. They will subculture bacterial and fungal isolates using aseptic technique and assist in the preparation or reagents. Duties will include standard lab safety, function, and cleaning related duties and tasks will comply with all aspects of laboratory safety procedures. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum education requirements include enrollment in an accredited college/university degree program pursing a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or related field, completion of Sophomore year, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Minimum experience desired includes undergraduate research experience, the ability to work on multiple projects, strong attention to detail, and effective communication and listening skills in a teamwork environment. They are expected to possess computer literacy including word processing and the use of spreadsheets and databases.

We ask that interns are able to fulfill a minimum of a 14-week internship between the May to September time period.

Job Qualifications

Student currently enrolled in an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology or any related field.

Completion of Sophomore year

Minimum GPA of 3.0
