  Job Summary We are seeking a Research Support Specialist4 for our Insourcing Solutions site located in Bethesda, MD.

The following are responsibilities related to the Research Support Specialist4 position:

•Perform genome modification of mice via CRISPR/cas9 microinjections in embryos to create gene Knock out and gene knock in animals, production of transgenic mice via pronuclear injection.

•Perform injections of gene targeted embryonic stem (ES) cells into blastocysts to create chimeric mice.

•Assist with the cryopreservation of mouse germplasm, including freezing and storage of sperm.

•Rederive of lines from frozen embryos and sperm via in vitro fertilization, maintaining of animal colonies to augment the existing cryopreservation and rederivation program.

•Provide rodent genotyping assistance by collecting samples from gene modified animals.

•Prepare tissue, and germplasm samples for transport and storage utilizing liquid nitrogen.

•Maintain integrity of the embryo rederivation efforts, including detailed accurate record keeping and routine breeder observations.

•Ability to work flexible hours and with other team members to ensure research needs and experiments are carried out to comply with appropriate timelines.

Job Qualifications The following are minimum qualifications related to the Research Support Specialist4 position:

•PhD degree with 3 to 5 years of lab experience in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or related fields

•Must have experience in applying genetics knowledge to the laboratory animal field relating to genetically engineered mice (GEM) including embryo manipulations, gene targeting in embryonic stem (ES) cells and development of gene constructs for production of GEM.
