Las adolescentes y mujeres jóvenes de entre 15 y 24 años siguen siendo las más afectadas por las infecciones por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) en Sudáfrica, a pesar de los avances registrados en los programas de prevención y tratamiento.
La actual susceptibilidad de las mujeres jóvenes a la infección por VIH y la adopción subóptima de opciones de prevención como la profilaxis previa a la exposición (PrEP), que son altamente efectivas, crean la necesidad de una vacuna contra el VIH que beneficie a las poblaciones con un riesgo sustancial de infección por VIH.

Sobre la base de estos conocimientos, este estudio utilizará la teoría de la inoculación psicológica para desarrollar y evaluar mensajes sobre la vacuna contra el VIH entre niñas adolescentes y mujeres jóvenes.
Objetivo principal: comparar los cambios en las intenciones de recibir la vacuna contra el VIH después de la exposición a información errónea en grupos con y sin inoculación psicológica y impulso de la economía conductual.
Objetivos secundarios: (1) Comparar la credibilidad y la persuasión de las afirmaciones de desinformación y la amenaza motivacional asociada con la desinformación en grupos con y sin inoculación psicológica y impulso de la economía conductual.
(2) Explorar los efectos de los subgrupos según factores sociodemográficos y conductuales relevantes, incluido el riesgo de VIH, antecedentes de PrEP, antecedentes de vacunas COVID-19, dudas generales sobre las vacunas y evitación de información.
Los investigadores llevarán a cabo un ensayo controlado aleatorio de tres brazos de 2-3 mensajes de inoculación que abordan los mitos emergentes y la información errónea sobre la vacuna contra el VIH en Sudáfrica.
Los participantes serán asignados aleatoriamente a un grupo de control o a uno de dos brazos de intervención: (1) brazo de mensajes de inoculación, o (2) mejorar el mensaje de inoculación con conocimientos de la economía del comportamiento.
