The following are responsibilities related to theAnimal Caretaker 2:

Reviews, comprehends and complies with all Standard Operating Procedures. Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures. On occasions monitors daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line / hydro pack and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.

Sanitizes, maintains, and repairs caging materials as needed. Maintains cage wash and animal holding facilities in a clean and organized manner, in adherence with all SOP and facility requirements. Disposes of waste materials in a safe and thorough manner as required. Maintains facility equipment and performs routine preventative maintenance on cage wash and autoclaves, including routine inspection of cleaning filters and roto-arms. Assists with the receipt, stocking and maintenance of supply inventories. Prepares and submits required written records, charts, logs and inventories. Actively interacts with customers as required to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance. Strictly follows all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas or isolator environments, including room or facility personnel entry and personnel protective equipment use. Working in a BSL2-4 environment.

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Animal Caretaker 2 position:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Experience: Experience and/or training working with mechanical equipment desired and some experience working with animals in some capacity.

Certification/Licensure: ALAT certification or strive, taking courses, and mock exams to become certified within one year of eligibility. Once ALAT certified should attempt to become LAT certified within six months of eligibility.
