This individual will be responsible for the effective supervision of the daily operations of a CRL Laboratory functional department.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    Plan, direct, coordinate and schedule the activities of the group through hands-on technical support, delegation of responsibility and/or authority to departmental subordinates. Serve as a model to departmental subordinates as it relates to CRL Core Values (CARE, LEAD, OWN, COLLABORATE). Provide leadership and motivation to all departmental personnel. Assist management with hiring departmental personnel.  Evaluate employee performance during scheduled reviews/merit increases. Identify objectives and defining goals of departmental subordinates and review with department Manager. Offer disciplinary action and training remediation if necessary.  Ensure adequate daily coverage of personnel, review and approve weekly time and PTO requests. Share responsibility for coordinating batch preparation and delegation. Train departmental subordinates and assign tasks consistent with individual strengths. Create and maintain accurate SOPs. Maintain proficiency in all related department SOPs and general knowledge of related laboratory processes.  Provide technical assistance to CRL customers via verbal and/or written communications. Report all departmental exceptions to Lab Manager or designee during weekly meetings. Assist in LTM accessioning and batch approvals of commercial orders.   May share responsibility for reviewing departmental function during internal and external customer/visitor tours. Work with the MDX Equipment team to ensure departmental equipment is maintained in good working order. Share and enforce the responsibility for departmental housekeeping and adherence to established safety procedures. Perform all other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related discipline. Two to seven years of related technical and administrative experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Technical knowledge of immunoassays Excellent organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Proficient in Computers (IE:  MS Office Suite). This position requires occasional domestic / international travel.
