JOB OVERVIEW

Responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise to ensure accurate and timely performance of regular and specialized testing in one or more areas of clinical laboratory such as Hematology, Molecular, Microbiology, Auto Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Immunology, and Flow Cytometry to obtain data for use in diagnosis and recording clinical trial laboratory test results.  Performs work within the allowed scope of technical license.   Leads complex troubleshooting and process improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Exhibits team leadership skills by mentoring, guiding, and providing technical expertise on specialized techniques to team members and training of junior staff.
  • Demonstrates mastery of specialized technical, scientific and/or administrative skills specific to this role.
  •  Performs and reports test results for all clinical laboratory procedures as assigned, both automated and manual, in the clinical laboratory department.
  •  May be delegated to act as the Technical or General Supervisor in the lab, maintaining oversight of initial training and on-going competency assessments of lab staff.
  •  Demonstrates proficiency, competency and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures with minimal amount of supervision.
  •  Notifies Supervisory team of any irregularities of factors, which may influence test results.
  •  Uses the control measures and personal protective equipment provided, reports any safety related deficiencies, and contribute to improving accident and safety performance.
  •  Leads efforts to ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
  •  Adheres to laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities and maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  •  Maintains proficiency and training requirements.
  •  May oversee complex projects and operational harmonization, often on a global scale.
  •  May drive new initiatives and cross functionally. Works cross functionally to ensure execution.
  •  May drive LEAN 6S initiatives.
  •  Involved with development of key metrics and analytics for Lab Ops.
  •  Performs analysis and identification of key trends from metrics.
  •  Oversees projects that relate to improvement of key metrics.
  •  Participates in continuing education through self-study, attending training sessions and meetings.
  • Performs work in accordance with ICH E6 Guideline for Good Clinical Practice.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Technical expertise across specialized laboratory equipment, clinical testing procedures, and applicable laboratory testing regulation.
  •  Strong knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts in job area.
  •  Knowledgeable across all assays within the scope of assigned technical area/dept.
  •  Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and any other governing regulatory requirements.
  •  Expertise with general laboratory techniques.
  •  Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and metrics.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  •  Strong organizational skills, and close attention to detail are essential.
  •  capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and independently.
  •  Demonstrated “everyday leadership” skills.
  • Understanding of LEAN 6 Sigma principles.
  •  Ability to work closely with multiple departme+N30nts and to contribute in multi-disciplinary discussions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, and clients.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of independence and motivation needed to complete assigned tasks and projects.
  •   Valid California State Clinical Laboratory License to perform laboratory testing.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field or equivalent and relevant experience. Required
  • 4 years of relevant lab or clinical trials experience.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $104,600.00 - $157,000.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
