Job Summary

Under direct supervision, responsible for performing daily laboratory tasks as they relate to Molecular Biology Testing Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Perform laboratory activities necessary for molecular biology testing including but not limited to; • Reagent preparation including buffers, chemical solutions, complex mixtures and media  preparations according to standard test methods.  • Perform tasks using aseptic techniques including work within a biological safety cabinet; • Participate in the general maintenance of laboratory equipment; • Conduct aseptic growth and/or manipulation of bacteria, yeast, virus and mammalian cells; • Make detailed observations and accurately and precisely record data, summarize data for  reports and document all activities performed in accordance with current Good Manufacturing  Practice (cGMP) • Perform a variety of molecular biology laboratory experiments, test and procedures including  isolation and analysis of DNA and RNA, PCR, QF-PCR, restriction endonuclease digestion  agarose gel electrophoresis, various blotting techniques and/or sequencing; • Report results of experiments, test, and procedures and analyze data. • Efficiently organize and plan daily activities • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to company policies and procedures. • Follow all SOPs, STMs, and cGMP guidelines as they relate to specific tasks. • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Biology or related discipline.
  • Experience: 0-1 years related experience in biological lab.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: None
  • Other: Knowledge of cGMPs or regulatory affairs pertaining to the pharmaceutical and biological industries is preferred. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to maintain communication across biological functional groups. Able to communicate effectively in a group or one on one setting. Basic Microsoft Office skills are a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time while performing laboratory tasks.
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently operates laboratory pipettes.
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Regularly observes, inspects, and interprets laboratory experiments, requiring close vision and the ability to adjust focus and detect and differentiate colors.
  • Must regularly communicate with employees/customers; must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • General laboratory working conditions. Regularly wears protective clothing (cap, gloves, scrubs, lab coat, and safety glasses).
  • Regularly works with or near toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Frequently works with biohazards.
  • Frequently is exposed to unpleasant odors.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

COMMENTS:

  • This position requires overtime, weekend, holiday, and/or after hours shift coverage, as needed.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00 Hr. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, and location.
