Job Description

Position Summary:

An experienced purchasing professional will join the Supply Chain team and will lead all aspects of site purchasing and inventory management and control activities. Proactivity and continuous improvement are key in this role to help us effectively coordinate and control inventory whilst delivering on the sites commitments and implementing the site strategy.

The team support purchasing for existing client production at the site as well as New Product Introduction (NPI) so you will need to work closely with internal stakeholders, implement processes to support NPI, be adaptable and will need to be very proactive in order to meet the ever changing needs at the early stages of NPI.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of the purchasing activities for the Swindon site (OPEX and CAPEX) – measure, monitor, provide recommendation for and implement control and management of spend to each relevant spend area.
  • Ensure the continuity of supply of all indirect materials required to support the site production plan. Lead resolution to any supply issues.
  • Management to plan for direct materials and undertake actions to aid target of full availability.
  • Work to minimise inventory / maximise stock turns through effective and innovative order management.
  • Lead discussions with suppliers to ensure that the availability of stock and any associated critical issues acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Inventory stored to specified limits and aligned to EHS compliance rules and requirements (e.g. annual ValPak reporting)
  • Ensure client inventory is aligned to agreed targets, aligned to contract, and that communication of inventory (inc stock takes) is handled directly with client.
  • Ensure client key performance indicators are produced and distributed as per request and to agreed timeframes.
  • Hold regular performance review meetings with suppliers covering performance (delivery, quality), and find opportunities for improvement and lead implementation.
  • Establish formal contracts with suppliers and coordinate performance discussions.
  • Lead all aspects of inventory management for our multiple customer portfolio (internally handled on behalf of clients) including compliance and accuracy in the SAP system.
  • Ensure department and suppliers align with cGMP standards.
  • Lead improvements of inventory flows across site including PO management and inventory flows through from point of PO being raised to finished goods leaving the warehouse

People Management:

  • To create successful work environments and provide support and guidance to your team ensuring high levels of performance
  • To complete People Management tasks for your team including, but not limited to: attracting and selecting new diverse talent, onboarding and training, setting clear goals and performance expectations, providing open, timely and actionable feedback, conducting appraisals and development discussions.

EH&S compliance:

  • Understand emergency procedures and follow relevant safe systems of work.
  • Ensure compliance with environment, health and safety and security policies and procedures, rules, signage and instructions at all times
  • Ensure timely reporting and investigation of all accidents, near misses and breaches of rules

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Experience of leading, supervising and motivating a team is preferred.
  • You will be proactive in your approach and have the ability to lead your team and their workload, priorities and effectively engage in their development.
  • Educated to degree level [or equivalent], ideally with CIPS accreditation.
  • A proven, strong background in purchasing including managing a team within a purchasing department.
  • Experience of a volume manufacturing environment, ideally within food, fine chemical or science based industries.
  • Must have an understanding of Supply Chain and ERP / MRP systems – including as a system user.
  • SAP knowledge crucial.

Please note this is a site based role 5 days per week but there can be flexibility to work 1 day from home after initial integration into the team.
