Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Animal Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Bethesda, MD.

As the Senior Laboratory Animal Technician, you will use existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to assist in assessing training needs; providing leadership and feedback; as well as developing and presenting training to various levels of staff. A key duty of this position is to provide training and oversight to LATs to monitor performance, as well as scheduling and assigning technical procedures to personnel.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Solve customer requests, inquiries, and concerns.
  • Quality assurance, to include animal health surveillance, monitoring the sanitation, cage washing and autoclaving procedures, incoming animal shipments for container integrity and animal health, HVAC system, and internal facility reports.
  • Provide animal treatments; assist with rodent colony health program and submission.
  • Perform daily health exams/clinical observations; animal husbandry duties, behavioral assessments and provide environmental enrichment.
  • Provide technical support to include animal handling and restraint, weaning, tail snips, ear tagging, collect blood/tissue samples, perform injections, treatments, surgical preparation and post-operative observations, timed mating, microinjections, and assisting with research procedures as directed.
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply/use various forms of anesthetic.
  • Record maintenance of animal importations, breeding, health, and housing areas.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements for the Senior Lab Animal Technician:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 3 years related animal care and handling experience performing laboratory animal technician duties, with at least 1 year in a supervisory/leadership capacity.
  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification required.

The pay range for this position is $33 to $35 USD per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
